So, let me tell you about my family

This past weekend was so much fun...we spent it in Rochester NY with my cousins, aunts, uncles, the Petites and Dad for Pat and Bethany's wedding.

Let's start with Brett, Karen and the girls. We have spent a little bit of time with them in the last few years and it gets better every time we see them. Brett knows how to have fun - he must have made five trips in the boat in order for the huge Reed and Petit clan to ride the waves in the raft. You know when the black hole is coming, Brett is going to get you. He is witty, fun, humorous, kind and sensitive all in one. Karen is very down to earth and interesting to talk to and the girls are very cute.

I have not seen Todd, his wife Jennifer and their two boys (the youngest being a spitting image of Todd) in maybe ten years??? Todd has as much of Uncle Tom's wit as Brett does. He knows how to make the children laugh (even Keera, who is fickle at this age). I didn't know that I would have anything in common with Todd and Jennifer, but children are a common factor. It was Jennifer who helped Connor with something on the night of the wedding, which I greatly appreciated. Their boys remind me of Brett and Todd growing up. Definitely a nice family!

Aunt Lonnie is lucky to have such good daughters-in-law. She seems to have someone who really cares about her too, Ted. I enjoyed the time we spent with both of them. They kindly offered the cottage to us, providing us with food and entertainment.

Christopher and Patrick are quite a pair too. Pat seems to take the thunder with his boisterous personality, but where would he be without Chris to back him. Chris too has a great sense of humor, to the point where I find myself falling into a funny dialogue with him, as if we were brother and sister and see each other every weekend, instead of every other year. Both Chris and Pat have chosen their women well. Pat and Bethany are obviously in love with each other and I don't think Chris and Angela are far behind. Angela is extremely easy to talk to; she seems a perfect match for Chris.

Of course these two handsome, well mannered boys came to be as they are due to Aunt J. and Uncle V. The weekend was truly an Aunt J. event from the rehearsal dinner through the brunch. She looked so happy. Uncle Vincent with his quite charm and caring mannerisms reminds me so much of Chris. They are indeed a very caring couple who reach out to any and all.

Liz - a kid forever. Only Liz would have all the kids jumping to see how high they could get their legs for picture after picture at 10:30 at night. Even tired, sick, grumpy Keera became entangled in the scene. It wasn't just the kids either; the adults joined in too. Yes, Liz will be a kid forever, thank goodness; we need more people like that. I don't know how she handles everything on her plate right now and still remains as happy and content as she is.

Amy and Gustavo are the couple of two years ago. The kids all think he is extremely cool. Who could possibly maneuver such a creative living environment as Gus and Amy, painter and writer, who can hop on bikes and go to the beach whenever they want. Life is good!

The kids couldn't wait to see Uncle Ken because he is cool too. The boys like to hear his stories and they watch him carefully for his actions. Of course Uncle Ken wouldn't be who he is without Aunt Kate. Aunt Kate in the background as a sister for Aunt Jo Ann throughout the weekend; helping with details. Only Aunt Kate would be able to get Brendan up dancing on the dance floor and only Aunt Kate would be cutting up the rug with Uncle Neil.

The Reed and Petit clan seem to just take over because they are a huge clan at that. I can't believe seven kids have come from two Hogans. Grandpa is now called Uncle Neil because the boys think it is so cool. I was proud to at least see the clan around the dance floor, not to mention the boys dabbling in some dancing and the girls gonig all out for the night. Who would we be without Grandpa setting the example for us; we are a clan within itself - a bit scarey to everyone else out there I guess. We are a loud, rumbling, tumbling machine of youth, elderly and middle age mixed in with all the issues and life experiences that could possibly happen.

The only sad thing about this weekend was that it had to end, only to probably not happen again until the next wedding (Chris?? Ok-that's getting old). I wish it didn't take a major event to make everyone come together because for a group of people who spend so much time apart, it is amazing how well they all just fall into place with each other when they do get together. Here's to the McAvoy clan and all their additions!

  1. Yes, this was a wonderful time! We have a remarkable family and have so much fun together. It's hard to beat that. For whoever reads this, Maureen didn't mention herself. She was a delight to watch on that dance floor...a great role model for kids. Her actions said "watch me and...celebrate good times! Uh huh!" She was hangin'loose, just like her Dad!
