First day of school - number 2 and 3

Connor and Katie, respectively number 2 and 3, headed off to school at approximately 7:50 on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Now I do slightly remember Connor and Katie's first day of kindergarten, but it is more of a blur because they were one year apart and it wasn't our first.

When I came home at 11:30, the first thing Bob did was show me the pictures he had of Katie and Connor getting on the bus right outside our door (we live on a main road, so the bus comes to us)....the funny thing was neither of them looked back, so it was the back of their heads. I said to Bob, "They let you take this picture?" He didn't really say much.

Katie and Connor arrived home at approximtely 2:50. The first thing out of both of their mouths, as Bob and I greeted them inside the front door, was, "Mom, you would not believe how embarassing it was this morning. Dad came out the door and took pictures of us getting on the bus. All the other kids saw them."
Connor added, "And then Dad picked up his shirt a little to clean the lens on the camera - how embarassing."

I guess I should state that Connor is 13 and Katie is 12. I told them I thought it was strange that they had let him take pictures in the morning. The next 10 minutes was filled with stories of their day...."Mr. __ was weird"...."I sat in the wrong class for awhile"....."Mrs. ___ tells funny stories." "I need 3 binders...,etc.".....For a couple of kids who said they don't like school and didn't want to go back, they sure showed a bit of excitement over the events of the day. Then Brendan walked in. Although this was his fourth day, he had a story or two to share.

Bob and I shared our experience of dropping Keera at Kindergarten that afternoon and then we all waited outside on the front steps for the little one to come home on the bus.

Yes, having four children is challenging; it is burdensome at times; it is worrisome all the time and yet it is the best family feeling anyone could have.....I can only imagine being Keera Reed and having all of her family sitting on the front steps waiting for her to get off the bus on her first day of school.....and can you imagine a 16, 13, and 12 year old feeling so much love (whether they admit it or know it or not) for their little sister that they would sit on the front steps with their (embarassing) parents to wait for her to come home?

Let's see how she did.....the next blog is above this!
