The Tent adventure

Keera is a bit bored lately....two weeks and school starts, so these are the most bewitched weeks of the summer...boredom, boredom and more boredom.  She's played with every toy she has-twice; we've done the blueberry picking; we've seen movies, done lunch, ice cream, mini-golf, swam in the pool everyday, had a friend or two over (but then you have two bored 6 year olds)....it gets to a point when the most fun things seem boring.....so in place of a sleepover with her older cousin, which couldn't take place, I volunteered to sleep outside in a tent with her.

We got out the huge tent, which sleeps about 5 adults, and with Bob's help, we were able to figure out how to put the thing up.  We haven't used it in about 10 years.

She was so excited that at 9:00 she wanted to go out and do the tent sleeping thing.  We got out there and she couldn't sleep because of all the cricket noises.  So, I told her we should go back inside and then come back out later when she was more tired.  Now...a less tired Maureen would have brought out cards or a game to play with, but I just don't have it in me right now.  So, we went in and watched tv until it was after 10.  Then we ventured out again and she fell asleep pretty quickly.  Of course, first rain drops started falling on the tent and her imagination of skunks led her to believe that skunks were scratching at the tent.  Thank goodness I was able to explain what it was to her...and she believed it.

I too fell asleep until 12:30 when Bob joined us.  At 3:30, Keera woke up and decided she didn't want to do the tent thing anymore.  It was pretty much pouring rain (kind of nice actually), but she had had it with sleeping outside.  So, in we all marched, much to the pleasure of the dog, who sleeps in our room every night and was looking for us.  We woke Connor up, who was sleeping on the couch.  He had a chuckle over the short lived sleep out in the tent.

Of course now the tent has to stay up for a few days to air our from the rain.  It is kind of fun to revisit things we did with the other three when they were little.  I just don't know how we are going to keep this little one sane for two weeks.  Other than Brendan, at her age (who seemed to find things to do), I have never met a child so active as Keera.  Her 4 day/2 hour class at the recreation dept. just ended this past week.  Luckily, a volleyball camp for younger kids just got up and running for next week-2 hours a day for a week.  So....the last week will be the test....can we find enough to do while I am working????  I suppose my blogs will be the tell tale sign of sanity or insanity by the 30th.
