Swimming
Here is what I love about swimming......
1. The first plunge into the freezing cold water....knowing it is coming....feeling a sensation of waking up after feeling drowzy on a cold evening......coming up from under the water and swimming so hard and fast to get warm that I am exhilarated, physically, feeling as capable as possible.
2. Doing the back stroke on my laps back. With my ears submerged in the water, I can hear sounds muffled, so it is almost like I can imagine heaven is like. There are still sounds, but everything is softer than how we hear it. It is so peaceful.
3. Seeing all different ages and types at the pool. Sometimes there are elderly, like really elderly and they just keep swimming, just keep swimming.....slow and easy wins the race. Sometimes there are athletic true swimmers, who amaze me with their swiftness and ability. Sometimes there are disabled people walking the pool, using little boards and kicking down the pool and once there were little children walking through, who were so bright eyed and amazed at the big people swimming that they stopped to wave and say, "oh my gosh".
4. The content feeling of having accomplished something and really putting a lot of effort into it, while doing what is probably one of the best exercises for your muscles.
5. The warmth of the air in the pool room, the smell of chlorine and the comfort of my clothes as I get out of that wet bathing suit.
6. The muscles that developed, which I have not seen in years...like before my extra weight I am still carrying....back to the times when I was carrying two toddlers at a time, everyday. So cool to have muscles again in my arms.
7. Getting up at 4:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m. on weekends or going at 8:30 p.m.......I feel young again.
Hmmm....I think I will go swim.......
