First day of school....for B
Brendan started the day after the hurricane hit. His college was open and ready. He wasn't too happy with his first teacher. I can see why kids don't like school-even college. Apparently he wore his hat in class, which our students at the high school do all the time....there is no school rule against it. He and another student were chastised by the teacher for wearing hats. When he went to put it back on at the end of class, she said, "Did I tell you that you could put that back on yet?" I felt like I was hearing something straight out of the 50's. I couldn't believe that a college professor would be so concerned with that. Although when I told my Dad the story, he was surprised Brendan would wear his hat in class...generational thing....like I said, right out of the 50's.
Other than that, he seems to be adjusting, but he does not like school. Bob is working very hard on his room above the garage so Brendan can move in. It is a huge space with electricity, tv, etc. Brendan said he just wants Dry Well up and a bathroom upstairs and he will move in. I love the fact that he is not away at college, but still here. We have an agreement about school that if he really hates it and chooses to quit, he must get a full time job, before he quits and pay for certain things around here.
I have tried to talk him into the fact that an associates degree is a must, at least, but he truly hates school and I don't know that making him do something is for the best, other than causing bad feelings. I also fell out of my seat when he said that he was going part time and taking three classes, but as I see how things have fallen out, it makes sense. He could not have taken on 5 college classes all at once. He really knows himself well and I have learned to trust him. He also seems to understand responsibility. Let's just hope it all turns out okay. I remind him that the most important thing about life is being happy and being able to live the life you want to....an education helps you to do those two things and being happy means enjoying your job..don't settle.
My guess is some rich girl will fall head over heels for him and that will be the end of that story. We shall see.......
