Our children's pain

Keera has friends at school and they have come over at times.  Today she was the victim of a comment that could happen to anyone.  A girl, who she doesn't get along with, said to the lunch table "who do you like better, Keera or (another girl's name)".  According to Keera they all said the other girl.  One girl said that they were making Keera feel bad and should stop and one girl said that both girls were a 10 on a scale from 1-10.  In Keera's eyes, it was a very hurtful thing that was said about her.  At times like this, I wish I could take a magic wand and wave it all away.

I can't wave it away, but when she told me, Katie, Connor and Brendan all said things to defend her (usually they all are fighting about anything and everything).  Connor immediately said he would have voted for Keera and Brendan said she should beat the girl up (yikes-no).  Even Katie said something (not as violent as that, but something to support Keera.  I guess family does work out when needed.  Also a life lesson to Keera that there will always be people to say mean things, but how you handle it is what matters because that is all you have control over.  Of course, easy to say but not easy for an 8 year old to get or practice.  Hopefully she is has self-esteem and support to move on and prepare for the next good or bad thing that comes her way.
