Child With drawal

This seems to be my theme lately...child withdrawal.....Connor now has what is almost a girlfriend-is that possible???  I keep asking Katie and she says they are "talking", which isn't just friends and not quite girlfriends.  Anyway...just talking is defined by spending a lot of time in his room face timing, versus hanging out on the couch all of the time with laptop on lap and tv on, or arguing with Keera-which sounds like a dream for mom, but not so much.  It also includes spending time at her house :(.  I miss him sitting on the couch making comments and hanging out.  She is really cute (the girl he is "talking to").

So that one is a new one for me.....

Next - Katie has a car that somewhat works now (although it needs more work...who buys a car for 1400 and ends up putting 1400 into it.....us....live and learn...no one said having kids and kids who can be independent was easy.  It might be better if we all went back to one income and had no extra cars, etc.)  Anyway...now that she has her own vehicle the mom/dad taxi service has let up-nice, but less of Katie, even in the car rides....not nice :(.


Brendan....seems like we see even less and less of him....He is playing fall ball on two teams with Bob, Bill and Jeff, so I have to start to catch some of those so I remember what my son looks like.


And the littlest.....Doesn't want me outside anymore, doesn't ask me for help with homework (yet this year), does still want me to play legos and dolls, but doesn't want me watching as much of her tv shows as I used to.......

They are all growing up and becoming their own people.....why is it such a shock to my system at times?

A call

I went to mass last week to be a Eucharistic Minister.  The lectors did not show up (and there was only one other EM with me), so I offered to read.  I told Father I had been a lector years ago.  So in the back of the church, I practiced real quick before I went up.  I guess when God calls....we answer.....and it was really fun to do it again.  So....if women can do all that in one mass, why is it they can't be deacons or priests?  I guess that is yet to come.

"Barn" is open

Obviously Spring has Sprung....the last two weekends Brendan has had friends sleep over above the garage - the barn.  This weekend Brendan is having friends over from school, above the garage...."Dad, these are big guys who will  help set up the pool table."  A 600+ lb pool table). Katie has plans to have friends  sleep over on Saturday and Bob has planned a pizza party for Connor's basketball team on Saturday, above the garage....I think I should start charging a fee for this place!  It's like having a glorified tree house to hang out in.

The feeling of reading a good book

I just listed a new book in my book section, Handle with Care , by Jodi Picoult. It was a long read, and it took me awhile to get into it, but that was more me than the book. It is very well written and the story is incredible. The reason I am blogging about it - I realized yesterday, as I went through like at least 200 pages, every minute I could pick the book up, that a good book is like a friend....once you get into it, you feel like you are a part of it and you have to know the outcome of what is going to happen to those characters who have grown on you. The power of a good book is amazing-when you can't put it down for anything.....unless your four year old says, "Mommy, I want attention." (Even then, guilt ridden, Irish CAtholic that I am....I thought..."I already gave you attention today in many ways....this is my time." Wow-a good book almost succeeding at overcoming the power of my guilt-amazing.)
