Shame on me
Bob told me I haven't blogged since Jan. 9th and that I should start to call it month by month, not day by day-I am ashamed. There's been soooo much to blog about too. Now it's been so long that I am just afraid to start, so better than nothing-here goes.....
Keera - funny comment of the week....she said shut up and we don't allow that in the house (although as teenagers, the kids say it to each other. I tell them not to, but if that is the worst they are saying in the house, I guess I should be happy.) Connor said, "ooohhhhhhh" and I said, "Keera-we don't say that." Keera replies, "sorry, sorry, sorry", but "can I explain?" She had me there-I started laughing and her explanation was that she meant to say something else.
Connor signed up for high school courses last week. Wow-like 3 honors courses and one AP course....I hope he can handle the anxiety of it. I knew he was smart, but that kind of blew me away-what teachers expect of him. Must be hard to be him sometimes. He wanted to go to Florida on vacation with a friend and her mother. He couldn't understand why we said no, but I think we got through it. Even Brendan said, "and he thought you would say yes to that?" When your own 16 year old is seeing the reality of the situation and agreeing with your parenting, you know you are doing something right. I just wish Connor didn't feel so torn apart inside sometimes. It's hard to grow into your own skin and it's hard to be a parent who loves your kids enough to say no.
Katie is off to socialville this coming week-birthday party Saturday, movie and sleepover Tuesday, and who knows what other plans....hang out in her robe for a cold, wintry vacation the rest of the time. Sometimes I wonder how she makes it through with two older brothers-they sure can be rough on her. She seems to hold everything inside and then once in awhile you see how much she is taking in. Still waters run deep.
Brendan only has Friday and Monday off, although his friends that go to the high schoolin town have all of next week off, so I told him that his attendance is so good he can take a day or two next week to hang out with friends (I know-bad mom), but I've been saying this for awhile and it has been like a carrot to get him up and going some of these winter mornings. This is the best attendance he has had in like four years. Besides, what's life without a few perks here and there-it's not going to kill his grades. He is about halfway through driving school, so it's time to try for his permit again. He cracks me up...slow and easy wins the race...that's Brendan-in no rush to get to where he's going, just enjoying the saunter along the way. I noticed his acne was flaring up, so I told him we could go see the Dr. if he wanted to. At that time, he said no, but then a week later, he asked to go. He told me he figured out that his history teacher makes it flare up because she stresses him out. During his shop weeks, he doesn't have acne at all, he said. His history teacher is a bit rough-some student started a facebook page on her and that kid and others ended up being suspended over it, but Brendan said like 100 kids joined the group....she isn't the nicest teacher, nor a very good one either, from what I've seen. Oh well....gotta learn to live with all kinds of people in the world..."said the old woman as she kissed the cow." (as my grandmother used to say to me)
Okay-so this is a start for blogging again. My job is crazy with all the budget cutting, and the new crazy administrator we have-the negative side of human nature surfaces at times like these and it can be pretty ugly....Bob is still on the job hunt-anyone? anyone? He is currently looking into a job on Long Island-no we're not moving, so not sure what that will all bring.....we'll see. Life is what happens while you're trying to plan it...that comes from Dad-and how is Dad doing? We'll save that for the next blog.
