Valentines Day
Hmmm valentines day.....what does it mean??? We love people all year long but this is the day we (spend money-okay that's a little negative) truly acknowledge it.
For the young children it might mean a small gift of candy or making a heart cake with pink frosting (Keera was soooo excited).
For teenagers it means the first time of expressing the emotion to others....Brendan bought a stuffed animal and candy for his girlfriend who he dated the longest he has ever dated anyone (like 6 mos.) then broke up with....they remained friends and now they are back together. I just have a funny feeling about this one...she is very nice and not needy or clingy.....Kelly has a beau for at least a month now (first one she has had). He is 19 and I am sure there will be a valentines present involved there.....young love is sweet and innocent.
For newly married couples, I guess, it is a monumental love you day in addition to all the days during the year.
For parents it is a chance to give a small token of love to our children, who we do soooo much for year round.
For couples who have spent many years together.....oh yeah-I qualify for that now, so I guess I am can be considered an expert......(21 years-wow).....it isn't new or fresh....it isn't googly eyed or cute.....but it is solid....it is a chance to say that it's not all about finding the perfect person-it is about making it work once you have found that person....it is about the hard times and the moments of doubt....it is about staying together through the times when you least want to be near the person....it is about keeping who you are and yet staying tied to someone who fell in love with you for who you were many years ago.....it is about slow and steady.....it is about the fact that there is no such thing as the perfect person for us, but rather what we do with the relationship we enter once we commit to it for years and years and years......it is what we would truly call love. And although it is important to express it on this one "love holiday", it is more important to remember it and express it year round.
