Three battles won
In the dark, cold winter, it is hard to feel "up" about things, especially during February vacation when kids are bored and there isn't much to do; however, this week turned out as an "upper". I won three small battles:
1. I took Dad to the doctor and he found out he can start putting weight on his ankle-that is a battle won for Dad, Tracey and I. The more independent he becomes the better for all of us. I also talked him into going out for a haircut. He was going to have the kids give him one-oh boy....
2. Brendan got his permit. He has been in driving school for about 3 weeks now, but he did not pass the permit test twice. We went on Friday and sat for 4.5 hours at DMV again, but this time he did it! Again, the theme of getting some independence for one of my dependents is present. Although it is hard to sit in the car while he learns to drive, eventually it will pay off because he will be more independent (most parents dread this-not me).
3. We had a TV incident with our 6 year old TV. It was very grainy (big screen), so we called a repairman to come in and fix it. It became a long, two month battle, of trying to get the guy on the phone, trying to get him to committ to fixing it and stressing over what was going to happen. The win was that we finally said, just give us the TV back, but it wasn't going to be that easy. He fought us on it and I had to get a little feisty...a little threat about how he made us pay by check, made out to "cash", the first visit-IRS might want to know about that. Next thing we know, he's telling us he didn't want to deal with us people anymore and he was leaving the TV outside Fri. a.m. for us to pick up. Bob and I went down for the covert operation pickup (with video camera) etc.not knowing what to expect. It was there and Bob brought it to a very reliable TV repair place which has been in business forever. Lesson learned - check around before you pull a name out of the yelloe pages-but we won yet another battle!
So, by my calculations....only about 10 more battles to go and I'll be breakin even!
